Method and apparatus for processing a call form an endpoint device (122,134,144) in a packet network is described. In one example, a dialed number associated with the call is identified (304). For example, the dialed number may be identified using a dialed number identification service DNIS. A current number of calls established by the packet network for the dialed number is determined (306). The current number of calls is compared to a threshold number of calls for the dialed number (308). At least one announcement associated with the dialed number is sent to the endpoint device in response to the current number of calls exceeding the threshold number of calls (312).
