A method for zooming in/out images in a portable terminal is provided to enable the images to be zoomed in a high-resolution image edit mode, thereby easily performing a zooming function only by inputting keys in an image edit mode. When a predetermined image is selected in an image edit mode, information of the selected image is analyzed(207,209). If the selected image is a high-resolution image, controller authority is given to the second controller(223). Under the control of the second controller, the selected image is displayed on the first screen, and a zooming box for selecting a partial image which will be zoomed is displayed on the second screen(225). When the partial image is selected, the selected partial image is displayed on the first screen and at the same time, a zooming function is performed(227). When a user moves the zooming box, a partial image selected by the moved zooming box is displayed on the first screen(229).
