A surfacing or flooring for open air or covered sports grounds, athletics tracks, games courts and gymnasia comprises a number of strata which include a stratum prepared from a mixture comprising granular rubber of uniform or of random grain size bonded together with a rubber-to-rubber adhesive. Such a surfacing or flooring may comprise a pervious rigid foundation, a first intermediate layer thereon consisting of a mixture of granular rubber of random grain size, the grains being bonded together by a rubber-to-rubber adhesive, a second intermediate layer thereover consisting of bitumen-bonded mineral fillers and a top layer consisting of granular rubber, the grains being bonded together by a rubberto-rubber adhesive. There may be an additional top most layer of abrasion and weather resistant material, which may consist of an adhesive binder and sand, may be coloured and marking and lines be provided thereon. Interposed between the bituminous layer and the layer of granular rubber superposed thereon there may be a thermally conducting electrically heatable layer. |
