<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable 2-(4-cyanotetrahydropyran-4-yl)-2-oxoacetic acid ester; and to provide a method for producing the ester by which the 2-(4-cyanotetrahydropyran-4-yl)-2-oxoacetic acid ester can be produced in high yield by a simple method. <P>SOLUTION: The 2-(4-cyanotetrahydropyran-4-yl)-2-oxoacetic acid ester is provided.
