<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To considerably improve work efficiency by automating numbering and image reading regarding medical bills monthly produced in large quantities from a medical institution. <P>SOLUTION: A bundle of business forms of one batch A portion in which single forms 1a, 1b, 1c, etc. each formed of one sheet, and multiple forms 2a, 2b, 2c, etc. each with a plurality of sheets bound, are stacked in a mixed state, is sequentially read and made into an electronic file. Substitution cards K1, K2, K3, etc. substituting for the multiple forms 2a, 2b, 2c, etc. by that number are prepared, and these substitution cards K1, K2, K3, etc. are sequentially inserted between the single forms 1a, 1b, 1c, etc. to replace the multiple forms 2a, 2b, 2c, etc. In this state, a total form image scanner 11 reads the single forms and substitution cards in the stacked order, gives numbers and acquires single form images and substitute card images.
