PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas cylinder and a method for manufacturing the same appropriately suppressing damage and exfoliation of metal foil. SOLUTION: In the gas cylinder 1 including an inner shell 13 composed of a resin liner 11 and metal foil 12 joined on the same, and an outer shell 14 composed of a reinforcement layer arranged on an outer circumference of the inner shell 13, an expansion and contraction part 41 is provided on the metal foil 12. The expansion and contraction part 41 permits expansion and contraction of the metal foil 12 itself along the resin liner 11. The expansion and contraction part 41 consists of a plurality of circular projection parts 42 in plan view. The plurality of projection parts 42 are formed by pressing the metal foil 12.
