<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument for a vehicle capable of securing the visibility of a display panel while preventing the dazzling of the eyes of a driver due to the reflection of an external light on the display panel. <P>SOLUTION: When the illuminance of a display surface 10d is lower than a threshold SH (NO in step S3), and the state continues for a first time (for example, 3 seconds)(YES in step S4), the applied voltage is set at 0 V (step S5). Thus, the light transmittance of a dimming film 20 becomes about 70%, and a predetermined visibility is secured. While, when the illuminance of the display surface 10d is higher than the threshold (YES in step S3), and the state continues for a second time (for example, 1 second)(YES in step S6), the applied voltage is set at Es (step S7).
