PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile telephone set capable of achieving smooth communication with the communication party. SOLUTION: The mobile telephone set comprises: an information transmitting means for transmitting to an opposite-side apparatus voice information, representing a voice inputted to a voice input means 2 and a character string inputted to a character string input means 3; an information-receiving means for receiving voice information and a character string transmitted from the opposite-side apparatus; a voice output means 8 for outputting voice represented by the received voice information; a character string display means 9 for displaying the received character string; a voice communication selecting means 12 for selecting whether the voice information is to be transmitted/received; a voice communication selection information transmitting means for transmitting to the opposite-side apparatus voice communication selection information representing a result of the selection; a data channel deciding means 14 for deciding whether a character string can be exchanged with the opposite-side apparatus; and a communication propriety information output means 15 for outputting data communicability information that represents the result of the decision and voice communication selection information transmitted from the opposite-side apparatus.
