<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce the tube-wall temperature of a light source such as a fluorescent tube provided inside a backlight unit of a liquid crystal display device while keeping dust out. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit 10 having a light source such as a fluorescent tube 11 between a reflecting plate 12 and a diffusing plate 13 is provided with a means for circulating gas inside the backlight unit 10 by taking in the gas present inside the backlight unit 10 and then discharging the gas to the inside of the backlight unit 10. Specifically, fans 32L, 32R are used as the means for circulating the gas. The fans 32L, 32R are placed in ducts 34L, 34R provided at predetermined positions in the backlight unit 10 so that the fans 32L, 32R take in gas present inside the backlight unit 10 into the ducts 34L, 34R and discharge the gas that has been taken in into the ducts 34L, 34R to the inside of the backlight unit 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
