PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop a carriage in a desired position and suppress a decrease in throughput, even if a DC motor is used as a carriage driving motor for driving the carriage. SOLUTION: A dot-impact printer 10 performs recording on recording paper by means of a recording head by driving recording paper in a sub-scanning direction while driving the carriage in a main-scanning direction by means of the carriage driving motor 32 (DC motor) in a state that the recording head is placed on the carriage 28. In the dot-impact printer 10, a position of the carriage 28 is detected by an optical sensor 401 and an encoder scale 402; a temperature of the carriage driving motor 32 is detected by means of the temperature sensor 400; and the opening timing of brake control for the carriage driving motor 32, which is performed to stop the carriage 28 in a predetermined estimated stop position, is changed on the basis of the position of the carriage and the temperature of the carriage driving motor.
