PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk reproducing apparatus which discriminates between a plurality of types of disks having different recording formats even if servo is disabled due to a false result of tentative disk determination. SOLUTION: The disk reproducing apparatus comprises: a track servo section 23 for making a control so that an actuator 34 puts a lens 31 on a track of a disk by moving the lens 31 to a small extent; a tentative determination section 25 for tentatively determining a type of the disk by putting the lens 31 on the track; and a servo-off determination section 26 for determining that servo is disabled, when the servo is disabled from the state in which the lens 31 is put on the track. When the disk information reading section is put on the predetermined track with a track pitch specific to a disk of the type which is determined according to the determination result of the tentative determination section 25, the number of times in which servo is disabled is counted, and when the number of times reaches a predetermined number of times, the disk type determined by the tentative determination section 25 is corrected to one other than the disk.
