A display device (10) where gas discharge tubes (11R, 11G, 11B ...) are held by a front face support plate (31) and a back face support plate (32). The display device (10) has display electrodes (2) and signal electrodes (3). The display electrodes (2) are formed on that surface of the front face support plate which faces the gas discharge tubes and arranged in the direction intersecting the axes of the gas discharge tubes. The signal electrodes (3) are formed on that surface of the back face support plate which faces the gas discharge tubes and arranged in the longitudinal direction of the gas discharge tubes. The signal electrodes are divided into groups (B1, B2, ... Ba) with each group having a predetermined number of signal electrodes. The interval between signal electrodes is a first interval (P<SUB>T</SUB>) that is substantially the same within the same group, and the interval between electrodes of adjacent groups is a second interval (P<SUB>G</SUB>) that is greater than the first interval.
