PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holding device capable of properly suspending a flexible sheet body without imposing a burden thereon in manufacturing the flexible sheet body being a lifting conveyance object, and of simplifying a structure thereof. SOLUTION: When this holding device is in a lifting state, support plates 33, a support shaft 34 and a restriction shaft 36 as an operation force transmission mechanism U2 make weights of an opening/closing mechanism U1 and a pair of holding plates 13 and 31 act, as operation force, on a pair of operation levers 9 and 10 and a link mechanism 21 as the opening/closing mechanism U1 to bring the pair of holding plates 13 and 31 into a closed state. Thereby, even if a driving source such as a cylinder unit is not particularly used, the peripheral part of the flexible sheet body S is sandwiched (held) by the pair of holding plates 13 and 31 in lifting it; and even if a ring-like hooking means or the like is particularly mounted to the peripheral part of the flexible sheet body S, the flexible sheet body S can be lifted.
