PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing method for a photosensitive planographic printing plate with both favorable development stability and decreased number of loss sheets on starting printing. SOLUTION: The processing method for a photosensitive planographic printing plate is characterized in that, after a planographic printing plate having a photosensitive layer comprising a photosensitive resin composition is developed with an alkali aqueous developing solution and then subjected to rinsing by shower and to a process with a plate surface protecting agent in an automatic developing machine, the rinsing water for rinsing is circulated and reused, and the rinsing water is brought into contact with air present in a space over the developing machine tank.
