The machine has a rotor shaft (19) which is rotated about an axis and includes a slot, where the slot has a slot bottom with an elliptic cross-sectional contour. A stator concentrically surrounds the rotor shaft at a distance, and a shaft seal is arranged between the stator and the shaft, where the seal comprises a continuous annular slot (21). A sealing component is provided for each of the annular slots.
