The device has an emission unit (4) sequentially emitting a set of signals at the respective frequencies corresponding to cells of various RLC labels (3) equipped in articles (1) for identifying the type of articles. A reception unit (5) receiving the emitted signals permits to detect the presence of a corresponding type of article within a container (2) when the amplitude of the respective signal is attenuated. The reception unit has a measurement unit (6) that measures the amplitude of attenuation in order to determine the number of articles for the same type of articles. An independent claim is also included for a method of implementing an article detection and counting device.
