The system permits changing of gear ratio and controls take up of clutch (14) based on difference between actual engine speed and reference speed. Take up of clutch is set below preset threshold of vehicle momentum where reference speed is a function of opening degree of throttle, and is set above threshold where reference speed is ramped down to promote rapid engagement of clutch to fully clamped condition. |
