<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recording in an optical disk having 3 or more recording layers with stable recording quality. <P>SOLUTION: A physical pit formed in a target recording layer is reproduced (a step 409), and it is determined whether the physical pit is reproduced correctly (a step 413). If the physical pit is determined to be reproduced correctly, information is recorded in the target recording layer (a step 419). Namely, the information is recorded after confirming the target recording layer is not a defective recording layer.
