PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a control means keeping a toner density constant in order to obtain stable image quality for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier; an electrifying means; an image writing means of forming an electrostatic latent image on the image carrier; a developing means of developing the formed electrostatic latent image to form a toner image on the image carrier; a detecting means of detecting toner density based upon the magnetic permeability of a two-component developer consisting of toner and a magnetic carrier; a toner supply means of supplying toner to the developing means; and a control section for controlling the toner supply means based upon the output of the detecting means. In the image forming apparatus, the gradientΔVL/ΔVC of an output value VL of the detecting means close to a designated output value to an adjustment value VC for obtaining the output value VL is detected in order to obtain the designated output value of the detecting means, and the correction is applied when deviated from the designated value.
