A display device 100 includes a pair of substrates 11 a , 11 b; an electrically insulative solvent 50 accommodated between the substrates 11 a , 11 b; and a plurality of first particles 30 existing in the solvent 50 ; and performs display according to a difference in reflectance based on a change in spatial distribution of the first particles 30 between the substrates 11 a , 11 b; wherein the first particles 30 include carbon as a main ingredient and have a substantially spherical outer form.
