<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable branching device capable of safely and securely running on a Z-branch route formed between two tracks arranged parallel with each other through a distance by a simple structure in the guided traffic system having a mechanical steering device running on a predetermined tracks and formed of running guide rings installed on a vehicle and guide rails installed on a track side. <P>SOLUTION: In this branching device for the Z-branch route, two tracks A and B are arranged parallel with each other and the branch route Z connecting the tracks A and B to each other is diagonally laid down. Liftable auxiliary rails 13a and 13b are installed at positions arranged continuously with the guide rail 11a installed along the branch route Z. When the vehicle 1 runs on the branch route Z, the auxiliary rails are raised, they are raised to a position where they can guide a running guide ring 2.
