<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device and an exhaust gas purifying method for efficiently purifying exhaust gas exhausted from an internal combustion engine such as a diesel engine. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device disposed in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine and provided with an exhaust purifying member including a catalyst means, is provided with a λ control gas supply means for controlling the air-fuel ratio of at least exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust purifying member, and a passage for supplying λ control gas injected from an injection port of the exhaust purifying member in the exhaust passage, from a supply port disposed upstream of the exhaust purifying member in the exhaust passage.
