<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which has high contrast and causes no gradation inversion. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device has a pair of polarizing films 34, a liquid crystal cell disposed between the pair of polarizing films and an optical compensation sheet disposed between at least one of the pair of polarizing films and the liquid crystal cell, wherein the optical compensation sheet has an optically anisotropic layer (1) 31 and an optically anisotropic layer (2) 33 and satisfies a condition : 2.0≤(Δn×d)/Rth(2)≤5.0 (in the formula, Δn denotes double refraction of liquid crystalline molecules in the liquid crystal cell, d denotes the thickness (nm) of the liquid crystal cell and Rth(2) denotes the Rth value of the optically anisotropic layer (2)). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
