PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic probe which raises receiving sensitivity without changing a material employed for a cap. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic probe has an ultrasonic transducer 31 which transmits and receives ultrasound and the cap 30 surrounding the transducer, and scans a living body with the ultrasound through the cap 30. The acoustic impedance of a mesh-like portion is lowered by forming the mesh-like portion with a plurality of apertures 30a in a portion where the ultrasound of the cap 30 passes and by making the density of the mesh-like portion (the arrangement pitches of the apertures 30a) smaller than the wavelength of the ultrasound, and the receiving sensitivity is improved. Water flows into the inside of the cap 30 from a sheath 17 and flows out to the outside through the apertures 30a. The lowered acoustic impedance can be obtained by providing a recess instead of the aperture 30a.
