The method involves receiving and evaluating measured values indicative of a driver operation mode to determine driver operation mode characteristics. The determined characteristics are exchanged with characteristics of drivers of other vehicles via an interface (60). A driver ranking list (50) is determined by comparing the characteristics of a respective vehicle driver and other vehicle drivers, and is transferred to other vehicles. An independent claim is also included for a device for classifying driver operation mode of a motor vehicle.
