PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing material for a liquid crystal display element in which contamination of a liquid crystal due to an initiator is suppressed by investigating a heretofore known problem associated with a sealing material containing a large amount of the radical initiator, wherein some components in the material dissolve into the liquid crystal, pollutes the liquid crystal and tends to produce a malfunction in a liquid crystal display, and also to provide a vertically conducting material and the liquid crystal display element. SOLUTION: The sealing material for the liquid crystal display element contains a radical curable resin and a diazide compound, wherein the content of the diazide compound is 0.0001-0.1 pts.wt. with respect to 100 pts.wt. of a radical curable resin.
