PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus which forms spectral images directly from Y/C signals, or luminance/color-difference signals and acquires the spectral images from either Y/C signals or RGB signals, or red, green, and blue signals. SOLUTION: The endoscope apparatus is equipped with a DSP 25 which forms the Y/C signals comprising the luminance/color-difference signals based on output signals of a CCD 15, a memory 36 which stores matrix data for Y/C to perform matrix operation on the Y/C signals, and a color space conversion processing circuit 29 for Y/C for performing the matrix operation on the Y/C signals output from the DSP 25 by using the matrix data, and forms the spectral images from signals ofλ1,λ2,λ3 of, for example, three wavelength bands (narrow bands) selected arbitrarily. The endoscope apparatus is equipped with a color space conversion processing circuit for RGB which performs matrix operation on the RGB signals by using matrix data for RGB.
