PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable, durable fixing device. SOLUTION: The fixing device 30 includes a pair of rotating bodies 32 and 33 disposed opposite to each other and defining a nip area 31 between them. The fixing device 30 passes paper 11, which has an unfixed toner image T transferred thereto, through the nip area 31, thereby fixing the unfixed toner image to the paper 11. In the fixing device 30, one rotating body 32 is disposed on the image surface side of paper and the other rotating body 32 is disposed on the non-image surface side of paper. The fixing device 30 has a first temperature detecting means 50 for detecting the temperature of the rotating body 32 on the image surface side without being contact with it, and a second temperature detecting means for detecting the temperature of the rotating body 33 on the non-image surface side in contact with it.
