A water tap has a filter attachment fitting (1) with twin filter chambers (6, 8) linked and operating in series or parallel. Each filter chamber has an inlet and an outlet. The main inlet and outlet attachment fittings e.g. threads are chosen in accordance with the requirements of adjacent units. The two chambers are identical and are lined with silver or a silver-coated material. Each chamber is packed with a suitable filtration agent e.g. active carbon granules, ceramics, sand, cellulose, an ion-exchange agent, a disinfectant, membrane, hollow fibers. The chambers are made at least in part of a transparent material. The chambers may be packed with the same or different agents.
