PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bring a garbage carbonization apparatus to achieve complete carbonization treatment, high energy efficiency and high operation rate of the apparatus by appropriately judging the completion of carbonization treatment with simple configuration. SOLUTION: The garbage carbonization apparatus is equipped with a storing section for storing garbage, a carbonization means for carbonizing the stored garbage by applying carbonization energy E1, a carbonization temperature-detection means for detecting the carbonization temperature T1 during the carbonization, a combustion means for combusting the dry distillation gas by applying combustion energy E2 to the dry distillation gas generated during the carbonization process, a combustion temperature-detection means for detecting the combustion temperature T2 during the combustion and a control means for controlling a carbonization heater depending on the carbonization temperature T1 as an index and controlling the combustion means by depending on the combustion temperature T2 as an index. The control means judges completion of the carbonization reaction depending on the conditions A-D which are set based on the rate of combustion energy applicationΔE2 and the carbonization temperature T1.
