PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine equipped with a light emitting portion so as to be able to precisely position of a cloth to be worked when setting it and arranging the light emitting portion in a place not hindering the sewing operation. SOLUTION: The sewing machine equipped with a needle rod to which a sewing needle is secured, a needle rod vertically moving mechanism vertically moving the needle rod, a needle oscillating mechanism oscillating the needle rod, a needle rod turning mechanism capable of turning the needle rod, and a knife and hammer for forming button holes, is equipped with a light projecting portion 16a vertically radiating projecting light with a small diameter toward a needle plate 18 upper face from the lower face of an eyelet portion of an upper knife 10 at a front end portion of an optical fiber 16 threaded through a mounting hole of the eyelet of the upper knife capable of being raised and lowered near the needle rod 8.
