<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell state monitoring device and method wherein operation of a fuel cell can be continued stably. <P>SOLUTION: This is equipped with state reading means (V<SB>1</SB>to V<SB>N</SB>, 21, 25) to read out state values showing the states of the fuel cell (1), a memory (24) storing calibration values as opposed to the read-out state values, a correcting means (21) to correct the state values in reference to the calibration value stored in a memory (24), and a discriminating means (21) to discriminate if the calibrated value being read out from the memory (24) is normal.
