<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus easily upgraded to a color image forming apparatus capable of realizing miniaturization and yielding a stable color image and further miniaturized as a monochrome image forming apparatus, and to provide a unit used therefor. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with a monochrome unit 1 including a monochrome image forming engine 2 for forming a monochrome image on recording material, and a color unit 3 including a color image forming engine 4 for forming the color image other than the monochrome image, provided to be freely attached to/detached from the monochrome unit 1 and also set so that its uppermost part is positioned upper than the uppermost part of the monochrome unit 1 when it is attached to the monochrome unit 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
