<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing plate material which necessitates no wet type development, in particular, and excels in starting properties of printing and in plate wear resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The printing plate material comprises a hydrophilic thermal image forming layer whose surface is made lipophilic by heating on a base.
