<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a high-speed image forming operation, without exerting a bad influence upon the next charging step, even when a step of removing charges on the surface of an image carrier is performed prior to cleaning step. <P>SOLUTION: A charging means 50, a developing means 60, a primary transfer part 30, a charge removing means 70, and a cleaning means 80 are disposed in the vicinity of a photoreceptor drum 22, in this order, in the rotating direction of the drum 22. An image forming apparatus 1 is provided with a control means 90 for controlling these means. The control means 90 stops a charge removing operation of the charge-removing means 70 for the photoreceptor drum 22 in the charge-removing step, so that the potential on the surface of the photoreceptor drum 22 is enhanced uniformly. Since the charging voltage of the charging means 50 at the next-image forming operation is controlled depending on the period for which the charge removing operation has been stopped, the surface of the photoreceptor drum 22 can easily be kept at a prescribed potential by the control of the charging means 50, on the condition that the surface potential of the photoreceptor drum 22 be uniform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
