<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a cover lock mechanism with high reliability whereby the locking is not disabled even when a cover is intended to be forcedly opened in a locking condition. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus is equipped with the openable cover and the lock mechanism for restricting the opening of the cover. The image forming apparatus has a window section through which a lock member is output or input from or to the inner section and a stepped section partially provided to the window section.
