PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for peer-to-peer instant messaging and a chat room system. SOLUTION: In this method, access to a chat room is controlled by using a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. This method includes steps of: transmitting a search request to a first pair of nodes in the P2P network, which is adjacent to a node requiring search and has at least one node; transferring the request to a second pair of nodes adjacent to at least one node of the first pair and provided with at least one node; comparing the search request with a topic list in a local profile for each of the first and second pairs of nodes; receiving zero ore more response from the first and second pairs of nodes; and establishing a network connection between the node requiring search and at least one node responding to the request for forming a community.
