PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material having low fog and high sensitivity, free of rise of fog even after stay in an imager, ensuring little sensitivity change, and excellent also in raw stock preservability and image preservability, and an image forming method using the same. SOLUTION: The silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material comprises light-insensitive aliphatic carboxylic acid silver salt grains, light-sensitive silver halide grains, a reducing agent for silver ions and a binder, wherein the silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material is stored in a package of a packaging material exhibiting a water-vapor permeability of≤5.0 g/m<SP>2</SP>24 h 40°C 90% RH (JIS K 7129:1992), the silver salt photothermographic dry imaging material exhibits a moisture content change (initial moisture content change after exposure to the environment) of 1.6-2.2, in which the moisture content change is a ratio of a moisture content after allowed to stand in an environment at 23°C and 80% RH for 6 h after opening the package to that immediately after opening the package, and the aliphatic carboxylic acid silver salt has a silver behenate content of 65-100.
