PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a liquid-absorbing resin having excellent liquid-absorbing properties even to a high concentration salt-containing solution such as seawater and a calcium chloride deliquescent aqueous solution, and free from coagulation between mutual primary particles regardless of the size of a reaction vessel or kinds of an agitator blades. SOLUTION: This method for producing a liquid-absorbing resin comprises the steps of feeding an aqueous solution containing a monomer mixture comprising an ethylenic unsaturated monomer having a sulfonate group or an alkyl metal salt thereof and a radical polymerization initiator to a hydrophobic organic solvent, and suspension-polymerizing the mixture in the reverse phase in the presence of a surfactant.
