Method of extrusion of thermoplastic material e.g. polyurethane is carried out by passing liq. thermoplastic material through a die to obtain a profile and providing the profile with its precise final shape by gauging and cooling. The profile is subjected to primary cooling immediately adjacent to the die to lower its surface temp. and lubricate its surface by projecting water onto it as it leaves the die. Appts. comprises a press on the end of which is mounted a die and a cooling sleeve near the die. Between the die and cooling sleeve and adjoining them is an insulating device. The cooling sleeve has an orifice slightly larger than the orifice of the die and located opposite it. The cooling sleeve may comprise an annular cooling chamber and inlet and outlet holes, with channels connecting the inner surface of the die orifice to the cooling chamber. |
