<p>Treatment of bulk material (A) with carbon dioxide (CO 2), in a silo (2) involves supplying CO 2 into the sealed, (A)-containing silo while removing air through a balancing line (21) and inhibiting flow in a blower (30)-containing circulation line (27) connected to the silo interior. After filling the silo with CO 2 the supply and balancing lines are sealed; the blower is switched on; and (A) is heated above a given minimum temperature via a circulating gas heater (31). Treatment of bulk material (A) with carbon dioxide (CO 2), in a silo (2) with an upper filling opening (3), a lower discharge opening (4), a CO 2 supply line (15) with a valve (16) and a blower (30)-containing circulation line (27) between upper and lower connections (28, 29) to the silo interior, involves (after introducing (A) and sealing the filling opening) supplying CO 2 into the silo from a storage bottle (9) via a gas heater (10) and a pressure reducing unit (11) (or from a pressure vessel (12) via a gas line (15)), while removing air through a balancing line (21) containing a valve (22) and connecting the upper end of the silo to the environment. At least during input of CO 2, the upward flow of in the circulation line is inhibited by a valve (32). After filling the silo with CO 2 the gas line and balancing line are sealed; the blower is switched on to transport the gas through the circulation line and (A); and a circulation heater (31) is switched on so that the hot gas heats (A) above a predetermined minimum temperature.
