Transponders are linked by a wireless duplex data transmission path. An electromagnetic carrier signal that also incorporates an arbitration symbol is transmitted. Each symbol has a response area. The transponders derive information from the symbol for modulation of a data signal with different time points for a reference time in the time domain for the modulated signal.
