PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a method for detecting a minute stripe defect occurring in a printed matter and to provide a suitable edge area extraction method by preventing edges positioned on both ends of a flat part from being contained in edge areas when the number of pixels does not change or when the width of a small flat part is less than a prescribed value and containing the edges in the edge areas in a case except for the above case. SOLUTION: A parameter storage part 12 sets the number L of the picture elements for regulating the position where picture element values are compared at the time of extracting the edge area from the input picture from an input picture storage part 10, a threshold T used for judgment and the number W of the picture elements between edges for regulation the maximum width of the flat part for removing the edges from the edge areas as parameters. Prescribed numeric values are inputted to L, W and T and the respective processings of extraction, expansion and contradiction on the edge area are executed on the input picture. In the case of the flat part where the number of the pixels between the edges is less than W, the edge area can be extracted in the position which does not contain the edges. When it exceeds W, the edge area can be extracted in the area containing the edges. |
