The method involves using a known learning sequence of K symbols sampled at symbol timing (T). A virtual observation vector is defined from observations on the duration of the sequence. A decision criterion or decision statistic is defined by taking into account the non circular character of the interferences of order 2, by using correlation matrices of the vector. An independent claim is also included for a device for synchronizing a rectilinear signal propagating across an unknown channel.
