The damper has a braking unit (64) comprising a split friction washer (52) presenting a friction side which is supported on an inner cylindrical surface of a cover (58) fixed to a primary flywheel. The washer is driven in rotation by its teeth entangled with the teeth of a driving piece (44). The teeth make contact along the surfaces that are inclined with respect to planes passing through a rotation axis.
