发明名称 Method and apparatus for treating continuously moving strands of material in long orcontinuous lengths
摘要 956,314. Treating textiles in long lengths with gases or vapours. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. March 1, 1962 [March 1, 1961], No. 7983/62. Heading B5B. [Also in Division D1] Continuously moving strands of filamentary textile material, particularly polyacrylonitrile filamentary material in the form of a tow or a yarn, in long or continuous lengths is treated with a hot gas or vapour comprising steam under superatmospheric pressure by a method in which a positive flow of a preheated liquid is directed over and through the strands while they are exposed to the action of the gas or vapour, whereby the transfer of heat from the gas or vapour to the strands is facilitated. The term " strands " is intended to include monofilaments and multifilaments in yarn, fabric, ribbon, rope, tow or other continuous form. The liquid may be water or other aqueous liquid preferably at the same temperature as the gas or vapour, e.g. 105‹ to 155‹ C. As shown in the drawing, the process may be carried out in an apparatus comprising a pressure vessel 10 having tow inlet-sealing means 12 and tow outlet sealing means 14. From the driven feed-in rolls 16 and 18 a tow 20 of polyacrylonitrile filaments passes into the main body portion 22 of the vessel 10. By means of suitable plaiting means (not shown) the tow is laid transversely upon the endless open mesh conveyer belt 24, which carries the tow from the tow-inlet end 26 to the tow outlet-end of the vessel 10. In this vessel the tow is treated, while it is being conveyed in a relaxed state on the belt 24 with saturated steam at about 105‹ to about 155‹ C., preferably 115‹ to 140‹ C. Saturated steam under a pressure sufficient to provide a temperature within the above ranges is introduced into the vessel 10 through a number of inlets, two of which are shown at 30. The tow is also treated on the belt 24 with preheated water 32 which is sprayed on the continuously travelling tow by means of a number of nozzles 34 attached to the header 36 to which water at a pressure of e.g. 30 to 60 p.s.i.g. is fed by the conduit 38. The force of the water sprays is insufficient to disarrange the tow and the rate of supply of water is not so great as to cover the tow on the belt 24 with a layer of water. When the tow approaches the end of the conveyer belt 24 it is removed therefrom and withdrawn from the pressure vessel 10 by means of the driven take-off rolls 40 and 42 after passing over the guide rods 44 and 46 and through the tow-outlet sealing means 14. Condensed steam and excess liquid passing through the open mesh conveyer belt 24 is drained off through the outlets 48 and 50. The strands may be of natural fibres or of man-made fibres such as regenerated cellulose, cellulose derivatives, vinyl polymers, polyesters, polyamides and polyolefines. The invention enables the treatment of the strands to be effected more rapidly and more uniformly than hitherto.
