A machine tool for machining workpieces comprises a spindle group with at least two spindle arrangements placed alongside each other, each spindle arrangement possessing a spindle to receive a machining tool. Each spindle arrangement is guided on a guide arrangement in the direction of the axis of the respective spindle in a longitudinally sliding manner on a holding means for the spindle group, each guide arrangement possesses an external clearance which is larger than the width of the respective spindle and that the guide arrangements of two directly adjacent spindle arrangements of the spindle group are arranged on mutually different sides of the holding means so that the spindle axes are arranged closer together than in the case of an arrangement of the guide arrangements on the same side of the holding means.
