PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce stress imposed on a photographer by solving the problem that the photographer has to continuously wait for image display until image processing is completed when automatically reproducing an image photographed just after photographing in image pickup processing to be accompanied with NR (noise reduction) processing using an NR image. SOLUTION: In the control method of the image pickup device having an image pickup element for converting incident light to electric charge and outputting an image signal and a display means, the image pickup element is exposed for a prescribed period to acquire a first image signal (S202), an electric charge is stored for a prescribed time with the image pickup element in an unexposed state to acquire a second image signal (S204), the second image signal is subtracted from the first image signal to generate a third image signal (S210), whether the prescribed time is longer than a preset threshold is judged (S205), a temporary image signal is generated from the first image signal when the prescribed time is longer the preset threshold, the temporary image signal is displayed on the display means until the third image signal is generated and then the third image signal is displayed (S207 and S211), and the generation of the third image signal is waited when the prescribed time is shorter than the preset threshold and after the third image signal is generated, it is displayed on the diplay means (S211).
