PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound thin film magnetic head equipped with an MR head element of CPP structure which can adjust parasitic capacitance without changing thickness of insulation layers between a substrate and a lower shield layer and between an upper shield layer and a lower magnetic pole layer, thickness, shape and area of a lower shield layer, an upper shield layer and a lower magnetic pole layer. SOLUTION: The compound thin film magnetic head is equipped with; a substrate; an MR head element which is formed on the substrate through a first insulation layer and has an MR layer in which a sense current flows in a direction perpendicular to a layered surface through a lower shield layer, an upper shield layer, the lower shield layer and the upper shield layer; an inductive head element which is formed on the MR head element through a 2nd insulation layer, and has a lower magnetic pole layer, an upper magnetic pole layer whose head end section faces a head end section of the lower magnetic pole layer through a recording gap layer, and a writing coil; and a non-magnetic conductive layer which is conducted electrically in the lower shield layer and faces the substrate in order to increase substantial facing area of the lower shield layer and the substrate.
