The invention relates to a method for operating an arrangement of several computers (1, 2, 3, 4) which are designed in such a way that they can execute units of software (A1..A4, D1.. D5). An additional control computer (5), which is used to monitor the computer (1, 2, 3, 4) and to intervene in the computer (1, 2, 3, 4), is provided and the status of the computer (1, 2, 3, 4) is monitored repeatedly. The invention is characterised in that a weighting (L2K, SL), corresponding to the importance thereof, is associated with the units of software (A1..A4, D1.. D5) and the following steps are carried out in case of a computer failure (1, 2, 3, 4); information is collected on the failure of all the computers (1, 2, 3, 4) breaking down at the moment of monitoring and on units of software (A1..A4, D1.. D5) affected by said breakdown, a take over scenario is determined for the transfer of the units of software (A1..A4, D1.. D5) affected by the take over by other computers (1, 2, 3, 4) using the weighting (L2K, SL) of the units of software (A1..A4, D1.. D5).
